In 2017, we did a survey on the global analog photography scene to understand the future of analog photography. The survey went absolutely viral and gathered over 7000 responses and a wide following under the hashtag #saveanalogcameras. The results were widely used by the community and the small entrepreneurs betting their livelihoods by believing in a future for film. For us at Camera Rescue the results gave also a very clear signal on what was missing in Europe to ensure film photography would be available to the next generations and since then, Camera Rescue has been on the quest of saving 100 000 analog cameras by the end of 2020.
Now, three years later, we were contacted by a brilliant student that wanted to revisit the #Saveanalogcameras results for her thesis. This gives the analog community an unique opportunity to get some hard data on its growth during the last three years, which most of us feel has been extraordinary, but has never really been studied. If this survey spreads as the previous one did, the data set of what is happening in analog community and market should be strong enough to persuade some of the bigger corporations around photography to at least look twice at the results. The conclusions, when ready, will, of course, available to everyone both through the academic instances, but also as articles summarizing the conclusions. The survey is conducted by Amelia Nguyen as part of her thesis for the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Finland.
